BMVC and Bechgyn Bro Morgannwg sing at Penarth

Date: 11 November 2023 | By: Nick M

Friday 3rd November saw us in the beautiful, gothic Penarth Methodist Church for our joint concert with the well known Bechyn Bro Taf male voice choir whom we last met in Cheltenham Town Hall in the spring.

An enthusiastic audience had braved the seasonally wet, windy weather to listen to a variety of songs ranging from the Barry boys opening with “Surfin’ USA” and the traditional “Tra Bo Dau” before Bechgyn Bro Taf took to the stage with “Io Vivat” finishing their set with “Llwynbedw”.

Our guest soloist, Eiriana Jones-Campbell then delivered three songs holding the audience spellbound with her rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “None but the Lonely Heart”

Back in spotlight again it was BMVC’s turn in the spotlight with a spirited rendition of the Canadian sea shanty “Hunker Down” and a brief nod to Broadway with two show tunes before the traditional “Cwm Rhondda”.

We were then joined by Bechgyn Bro Taf for the final two songs – the gorgeous “Gwahoddiad” and the effervescent “Vive la Compagnie” to applause.

Special mention should be made of our very own Gareth Roberts who compered with his usual aplomb as well as the two musical directors, Dorothy Connell and Richard Vaughan and accompanists Chris Fossey and Ffion Rhisiart.
